Plan for free town wi-fi submitted

AN application to install equipment that will enable free wi-fi internet access in Henley town centre has been submitted.

AN application to install equipment that will enable free wi-fi internet access in Henley town centre has been submitted.

The scheme is part of a joint initiative by Henley Town Council and South Oxfordshire District Council to attract more visitors.

The application, submitted by the town council, is for an antenna to be attached to an existing pole on the town hall roof.

The building is Grade II* listed and the application says: “We are working sympathetically with this historic building, trying to ensure this new hi tech, low profile equipment does not have an impact on the aesthetic quality of the building.

“Henley is keen to keep up to speed with the change in technology, try to meet visitor expectation and retain the competitive edge over neighbouring towns. The technology is hoped to encourage longer dwell time, better retail experience and ease of access to tourist information and town navigation.”
