Roadworks cause commuter woes

Commuters were hit with delays of more than an hour this morning after a Caversham road was closed for repair works

DRIVERS in Caversham were disrupted this week due to roadworks.

Church Street was shut between the junctions with Gosbrook Road and Hemdean Road for traffic heading towards Caversham Bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Long tailbacks built up on the bridge and in Gosbrook Road during the morning rush hour on Wednesday as a detour was in place.

Thames Water closed the road in order to repair leaking pipes.

A spokesman said: ?We?re sorry for the disruption. The pipes needed to be repaired before they burst as that could lead to problems on a much larger scale, including flooding and interruptions to customers? water supply.?
