Sports car specialist wants to use barn for repairs

A TVR specialist wants to use a barn in Lewknor for the storage, rebuilding and servicing of the sports cars.

A TVR specialist wants to use a barn in Lewknor for the storage, rebuilding and servicing of the sports cars.

The change of use application for Moorcraft Barn in Weston Road also includes the erection of a single storey extension for Str8six.

The plans submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council say: “The proposal would be to use the barn in its current form. There is no requirement to make any alterations to the external appearance other than to add a simple extension to the side elevation to provide a basic toilet and office facility.

“For security purposes, given the valuable commodity in the barn, it is proposed to erect a 2m fence around the site. The use is proposed by a local person who is currently operating out of the neighbouring barn close to the site.

“The user employs three people and essentially rebuilds TVR sports cars for sale. This might be bodywork or engines. It is a skilled and highly technical job.

“Due to his expertise, he carries out a limited amount of servicing and repairs for other car owners. The use of the site is low key and there are no heavy lorries associated with the use.”

The application says there have been no complaints from neighbours and the barn’s use generated only a few car movements each day.

It says: “The larger barn offers the opportunity to keep all the cars under cover and to allow more space around the cars while they are being worked on.”
