SHIPLAKE level crossing was closed for more than 24 hours at the weekend for maintenance.
It shut from 12.10am on Sunday to 4.30am on Monday so that section of the track could be re-railed following emergency maintenance work in December.
A Network Rail spokeswoman said: “It was deemed that this section of rail had reached its lifetime expiration date and so needed to be replaced.”
Line-side neighbours were sent letters notifying them of the work taking place and warning of some “disturbance”.
In November, Network Rail apologised for installing orange surveillance cameras at the crossing in October without properly consultating villagers.
