A SIGN said to have directed heavy goods vehicles away from Henley on the A404 roundabout at Burchetts Green does not exist.
Town councillor Will Hamilton has repeatedly called for the sign to be reinstated to reduce the number of large vehicles using Henley as a short-cut.
But the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, which is responsible for the roundabout, says there was never such a sign.
A report to Henley Town Council’s town and community committee said: “As far as they are aware, all traffic to Oxford is already signed via the A404 and M40.
“They would only look at introducing separate HGV signage if the route was different to that being used by other traffic.
“They further advised that they are not aware of any previous HGV signs and have checked on Street View and only Hurley and Henley are signed on the A4130 from roundabout.
“If drivers are following their satnavs, there is not a lot they can do about it.”
