Shop gives rock salt to estate

THREE hundred bags of salt have been donated by Tesco to the Gainsborough Residents’ Association in Henley.

THREE hundred bags of salt have been donated by Tesco to the Gainsborough Residents’ Association in Henley.

It will used to spread on the roads and pavements on the estate during icy weather.

Some will also be given to the YMCA in Lawson Road and 20kg bags will be offered to schools.

Association chairman David Eggleton said, “In the last few years we’ve had problems with snow and ice on the estate and the town council’s parks services team have given us some salt.

“When it started snowing the weekend before last, town clerk Mike Kennedy put me in touch with Tesco who offered us the salt. It’s very generous of them to help out.”

Mr Eggleton collected the salt from the store last Friday and it will stored in the association’s shed until grit bins can be installed on the estate.

Tesco had ordered the salt to use at its car park and contacted the town council when it realised there was a surplus.

Store manager Simon Warren said, “We had a glut of it so we said there must be someone who can benefit from this. We are happy to help out a local residents’ association.”
