Village to consider 20mph speed limit

PUBLIC consultation is taking place on plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Shiplake

PUBLIC consultation is taking place on plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Shiplake.

Tudor Taylor, who chairs the parish council, said: â??Speeding was one of the issues that came up in the community survey.

â??Now we want people to make up their own minds and then we will take a view alongside Oxfordshire County Council and the police. If people donâ??t want it, they wonâ??t get it.â?

The roads that would be affected are as follows: Memorial Avenue from Plough Lane to a point 90m east of Orchard Close; Plough Lane from the A4155 Henley/Reading Road to a point 30m northwest of its junction with Memorial Avenue; Badgers Walk, Baskerville Lane, Brocks Way, Plowden Way, Lowes Close, Oaks Road, Orchard Close, The Chestnuts and Westfield Crescent, for their entire lengths; Crowsley Road from Station Road to New Road; Mill Lane from the A4155 to a point 165 metres east of Mill Road; Mill Road from Mill Lane to Station Road; Station Road from Lashbrook Road/Basmore Lane, westwards to a point 75 metres west of Quarry Lane.

Villager Robert Pehrson called the plans â??nonsenseâ?.

Writing on the Shiplake Villages website, he said: â??Putting an unnecessary limit like this on long stretches of road simply invites non-compliance and discredits speed limits generally.â?

The consultation ends on March 6. To take part, write to: The traffic regulation team, Speedwell House, Speedwell Street, Oxford, OX1 1NE.
