MORE than £800 was raised for charity at the Mayor of Henley?s quiz night.

A total of 120 people took part in the event at the town hall and were in teams of six to eight. Categories included geography, fine art and history.

The winning team was the Henley and Peppard branch of the Royal British Legion and each member received a bottle of wine as a prize. There was also a raffle with prizes including silk scarves and a Hobbs of Henley boat trip.

Visitors enjoyed curry courtesy of the Spice Merchant in River Side and Raju?s Tandoori in Reading Road and beer provided by Brakspear.

Mayor Martin Akehurst, who entered a family team, said many more people than he expected had attended. He said: ?I was humbled by the support from the people of Henley, both in donating raffle prizes and food and turning up on the night. It was a great evening and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. The quizmasters Tom and Josie Campbell did a superb job.?

All proceeds will be split between the Mayor?s chosen charities for his year in office, the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre, the Kingwood Trust and the Samaritans.
