SOUTH Oxfordshire District Council is to move into a new building following the blaze that badly damaged its offices.

Staff and colleagues from Vale of White Horse District Council will begin moving into Milton Park, near Abingdon, at the end of May. The premises used to be occupied by Research Machines. The fire ripped through the councils? base in Crowmarsh Gifford in January. Since then about half of 400 staff have been working from a temporary base at Abbey House in Abingdon. The rest have been working mainly from home.

The authorities are waiting on a report on the extent of the damage to the structure of the building, which will help them work out if it would most cost effective to rebuild or to seek a permanent home elsewhere.

Council leader John Cotton said: ?Once the move is out of the way I?m looking forward to cracking on with finding a permanent home for the council.?

Andrew Main, 47, from Roke, has been charged with arson.
