School site opposed

SONNING Common Parish Council has voted to oppose a possible site for a new free school for children in Caversham.

SONNING Common Parish Council has voted to oppose a possible site for a new free school for children in Caversham.

The land at Dyson’s Farm, near Kidmore End, is one of five sites being considered as a permanent site for The Heights School but is South Oxfordshire rather than Reading borough.

The council passed a motion proposed by Councillor Leigh Rawlins, saying that Dyson’s Farm would be “an inappropriate location and would set an unwelcome precedent for more housing development around it”.

The motion added: “It would also be a less accessible location for parents and pupils, bringing excess traffic on to a minor county lane.”

Reading Borough Council is consulting on the five sites. To take part, visit beta.reading.gov.uk/schoolsite
