Parking on busy road set to be banned

A PARKING ban could be introduced on part of a road in Peppard Common

A PARKING ban could be introduced on part of a road in Peppard Common.

Peppard Parish Council is planning to commission either double or single lines on both sides of Blounts Court Road from the junction with Peppard Hill to Butlers Yard.

It follows complaints by residents that the area has become dangerous due to the high number of parked cars.

A site meeting was attended by council chairman Barry Wood, Oxfordshire county councillor David Bartholomew, Chris Shead, of Thames Valley Police, and Mark Shaw, a transport officer at Oxfordshire County Council as well as five  residents.

Councillor Bartholomew said: “The next step is that the officer is going to draw up a scheme for some yellow lines around that area to improve traffic management.

“It will go to consultation and if Oxfordshire County Council is in favour we would facilitate.”

Cllr Bartholomew said the work would not be funded by the county council.

Councillor Wood said: “It is likely that the residents will have to make a contribution.

“Oxfordshire County Council is coming back with a proposal and the costs.”

He said it was important to tackle the problem quickly because with new housing due it was only likely to get worse.
