Hand of friendship extended to ambassador

THE Slovenian ambassador to the UK came to Henley on Monday

THE Slovenian ambassador to the UK came to Henley on Monday.

Tadej Rupel was visiting on behalf of Bled, Henley?s twin town in Slovenia.

He was greeted at the town hall by Mayor Martin Akehurst before meeting members of a welcoming party, including councillors and members of the Henley-Bled Twinning Association. Deputy Mayor Jeni Wood was dressed in red, blue and white, the colours of the Slovenian flag.

Mr Rupel talked about arranging speakers for The Henley College, exchange trips between the towns and a Slovenian crew possibly entering this year?s Henley Royal Regatta. The Mayor presented him with a clock featuring a backdrop of Henley and a book on the town?s history by Elizabeth Hazeldine.

Mr Rupel was then taken on a tour of the town by Councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin and Melanie Hobbs, of Hobbs of Henley.
