Offers on centre site

A NUMBER of “strong” offers have been received for the former Henley Youth Centre site.

A NUMBER of “strong” offers have been received for the former Henley Youth Centre site.

The land in Deanfield Avenue has been allocated 25 homes under the joint Henley and Harpsden neighbourhood plan and the closing date for bids was Thursday last week.

Steven Smith, a partner at Reading chartered surveyors Haslams, who are handling the sale, said: “We have had a number of strong bids which we’re considering with our clients and we will make a decision in due course.”

The centre was closed last year after the Thamesfield Youth Association announced that it could no longer afford the running costs.

Money generated from the sale is likely to be used to fund specific youth projects in the town.

Clive Wilkinson, chairman of the centre’s trustees, said the association was now subsidising the junior youth clubs that are run at the Henley YMCA and youth and community project Nomad on Mondays and Tuesdays.
