Prospective District Councillor - Jim Merritt

I BELIEVE that development is a major issue for the residents of Benson and surrounding areas.

I BELIEVE that development is a major issue for the residents of Benson and surrounding areas. Clearly there is a need for housing but I am against large-scale intensive developments.

The area needs affordable housing for local young people, both rental and starter homes. But development should be on smaller sites. Such development would help to make local services and amenities more sustainable. We have seen business after business close in the past four years and now the local playgroup is facing problems.

I am concerned that little communication has been maintained between local residents, parish councillors and the district council. As district councillor, I would commit to attend as many parish council meetings as possible and use all means possible to keep in touch with residents. I will undertake to hold a regular evening surgery. In this way, I can raise issues and concerns from a position of knowledge.

Better communication means better representation. Benson and Crowmarsh deserve better.

I am passionate about local government and the potential for good it can have in the community.
