Prospective District Councillor - Ken Arlett

BORN and educated in Henley, I am married with two grown-up sons.

I previously served as a district councillor from 1991 to 1999 and 2003 to 2007.

Henley is the “jewel in the crown” of South Oxfordshire, but over the past four years we have been badly let down again by our Conservative-led district council, who are more than happy to see further cuts to our services.

The Community Investment Fund has been cut by 75 per cent (£1.5 million) to help reduce council tax rather than help local organisations.

The majority of other towns in the district get two hours of free parking any time of the day to help local shopkeepers but not in Henley.

Ninety-two per cent of planning decisions are made by council officers rather than by the elected councillors.

Recycling containers have been removed from all car parks.

I am standing for election because I am passionate about our town, not like the candidates who stand just for political reasons. We need people to stand up and fight for what is right and not be dictated to by a leader and cabinet with their own agenda, which is not good for Henley and its residents.
