FOUR years ago I returned to South Oxfordshire after living in the Midlands. My working career included several years at the Hydraulics Research Station in Crowmarsh and then working in computing at the Highways Agency.
My record of public service includes serving on a health authority and leading an advocacy group for people with learning disabilities. I am a committed environmentalist and have volunteered with the National Trust for many years. Returning to South Oxfordshire has allowed me to join the volunteers working on footpath maintenance and other environmental aspects in the Chilterns. I was also delighted to return to singing with Benson Choral Society.
The difficulties facing people in South Oxfordshire over issues like housing, transport, education and social care are made worse by the arbitrary divide of responsibilities between Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council.
I would willingly work towards a more coherent delivery of all services to local people, while maintaining local democratic responsibility and accountability.
