Prospective District Councillor - Chris Jones

BORN in Reading, I moved to South Oxfordshire some 30 years ago. I was educated locally and am married with a five-year-old daughter.

I am standing for election because I want to see more help given to safeguard our town centre’s independent retail shops that have been suffering at the hands of the multinational companies for years. Cutting business rates and providing free car parking would be a good start.

The quantity of residential development imposed on us is a symptom of failure and has long-term consequences for the environment, public services and employment. I will only support building on brownfield sites.

Financial support for local organisations seems to have been drastically reduced. Where has the £2 million per year funding disappeared to? I will seek to find out and get this changed. All the promises on reducing HGV vehicles and air pollution in the town centre have come to nothing, I will find out why.

Only social housing should be built in the town over the next few years to support local children who would otherwise have to move out of the area.

If you want change then vote for me and I will work tirelessly on your behalf.
