Prospective District Councillor - David Cooper

I AM married with six children and am a retired environmental scientist.

I AM married with six children and am a retired environmental scientist.

I am standing as a Liberal Democrat because I want to see a council that offers equal opportunity for all its residents, maintains the prosperity of the area and protects the wellbeing of everyone.

I have six grown-up children and nine grandchildren so am well aware of the pressures that families and young people face, particularly in an area like ours with very high housing costs.

The council faces a major challenge with large numbers of new houses being imposed on it. Absorbing these, together with their residents, while protecting the environment and our living spaces will not be easy.

The Lib-Dems are committed to improving the quality of life in our district for everyone. I will contribute to this by promoting more safe cycle routes and better public transport, so that there are real alternatives to the car; high design standards for new housing and more affordable homes close to employment sites and protecting our local pubs and shops.

I am at present vice-chairman of my parish council and treasurer of a local environmental protection group.
