Prospective District Councillor - Alison Smart

I LIVE in Wallingford with my husband and have two children at university. I have lived in South Oxfordshire for almost 30 years and have always been involved in the local community as playgroup chair, school governor and Wallingford town councillor. I am a self-employed gardener and part-time lecturer.

I joined the Green Party because I feel that the mainstream parties have lost touch with ordinary people and have policies which are almost indistinguishable.

The Greens plan to provide affordable, high-quality low-carbon homes through renovation, rebuilding, use of brownfield sites and better management of existing homes.

The Greens will end the expensive, complex benefits system with an adequate “citizens’ income” for every adult, a national living wage, an end to austerity and green jobs refurbishing homes and businesses for energy efficiency, developing renewable energy, farming for local food and enhancing public transport.

For a secure low-carbon future, we need control over our services. With the Green Party, we would once again own our railways, our NHS and our schools and care would be properly supported.
