I AM 55 and married with two children, aged 19 and 22. I have lived in Wallingford Road, Goring, all my married life (29 years) and in the village since 1977. I have found it to be a wonderful village to live and bring up a family.
I am a partner and co-founder of Regency Partnership, independent mortgage advisers, founded in 2002. We take pride in treating customers fairly, which is important from our company’s and the regulator’s perspectives.
It is that ethos that is behind why I have decided to apply to join the parish council. I have recently been alarmed at the lack of communication and the speed with which massive decisions have been made on our behalf and feel we haven’t been treated fairly by the powers that be.
We have Network Rail electrifying the railway with ugly metal pillars across our beautiful countryside and South Oxfordshire District Council imposing a large number of houses on our village. Both of these matters, if left unchecked, could change our village forever.
Consultation is key. If we have to have these, so be it, but let us all have a say to make sure the impact is as small as possible to us all.
I would like to improve this communication to everyone from within the local council.
