I AM a 67-year-old writer and boat designer and live with my wife Linda in Bridle Way, Goring. I am a member of Goring Social Club, Goring Thames Sailing Club and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
We came here 25 years ago because we loved the river and the countryside. We both worked in or near Goring and wanted to put something back into the village.
I believe strongly in local democracy and believe that the parish council is the strongest body to represent and fight for villagers, independent of any party affiliations.
I recently represented a group of residents who want Goring to have a neighbourhood plan as I believe this is essential for setting out the priorities for the village over the next 10 to 15 years. These priorities include housing, schools, traffic, parking, safe areas for pedestrians, recreation and amenities for all.
We have a strong, vibrant village with many shops, clubs, pubs and churches and an award-winning village magazine, all located round a central heart, and it is vital that we do not allow this heart to be broken up.
