I WAS co-opted on to Goring Parish Council a couple of years ago. It turned out this was a greater act of altruism than I had imagined and not of the sort that garners much praise.
My expertise comes from 30-plus years as an award- winning architect, running my own practice, my experience in planning matters and as an invited member of the design review panel at South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils.
I passionately believe everyone has a right to a roof over their heads regardless of personal wealth and every home should have “firmness, commodity and delight”, to use the words of Vitruvius.
Thus I have attended all three public consultation exhibitions to discuss the government’s requirement that land for new homes be found, even in Goring. I have listened to the views of many of those who have attended and been actively involved in discussions with the district council’s planning officers about the advantages and pitfalls of the various housing allocation sites under consideration and have represented the views that members of our community have expressed.
I have adult twin sons who were born and raised here and we have lived in Goring for 16 years.
