Villagers want more of youngsters

THE findings of a survey into how youth facilities in Benson could be improved have been presented to the village.

The parish council’s youth facilities working group asked what new facilities people would like to see and showed examples of other projects in Oxfordshire with a display at the parish hall.

Parish councillor Teresa McTeague, who chairs the group, said: “We had more than 60 people in the first half an hour and then we gave up counting. We have been really pleased with the amount of young people who have shown an interest.”

There were more than 300 responses to the survey. The most popular choices for new facilities were an adventure recreation area with a zip wire (outdoor) and a sports centre (indoor).

Cllr McTeague said: “We wanted to present the results of the survey to all parishioners and give them the opportunity to see it and discuss face-to-face with the working group what we found.

“We then wanted them to explore with us, in a more detailed way, what they would like.

“Without doubt people want more outdoor activities. They want to see the youth hall and scout hut rebuilt as a priority.

“What we need to find out is do they want a joint youth facility or do they want them to be separate?”
