New footpath provides woodland walk

A NEW public footpath has been created in Rotherfield Greys.

A NEW public footpath has been created in Rotherfield Greys.

The 250m path goes through woodland near the village cricket ground and connects two existing footpaths as well being part of the Chiltern Way.

It was created by Oxfordshire County Council in partnership with the National Trust.

Volunteers from Sonning Common Green Gym, which combines conservation projects with physical activity, helped clear vegetation along the route.

Brian Gardener, Green Gym co-ordinator, said: “This was an enjoyable and interesting task for the Green Gym that enabled us to use our woodland management skills to create a useful asset for the local community.”

Councillor David Nimmo Smith, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said the path would be a safe alternative to walking along a busy road.
