AN alleyway in Heney that was labelled “disgusting” because of the rubbish that collected there by is now being cleaned every day.

Derek Whittingham, of New Street, complained about the condition of the passage between Sainsbury’s and Boots in Bell Street at a town council meeting in April.

He said that the alleyway was regularly filled with litter and cigarette butts.

Town councillor Simon Smith, who works at Sainsbury’s, told a Henley in Bloom committee meeting that the problem had been solved.

He said: “Sainsbury’s have taken responsibility to keep it clean. We have now come to an agreement with the company that owns the alleyway for us to sweep it every day.”

Caroline Langler, a member of Henley in Bloom, said she had already noticed the difference.
