Repairs overrun

WORK to strengthen Reading Bridge is due to be completed in late August or early September.

WORK to strengthen Reading Bridge is due to be completed in late August or early September.

The scheme was originally due to finish in late June or early July but the work is taking longer than anticipated.

Reading Borough Council says the original timescale was based on a visual inspection of the bridge but after scaffolding was put up it became clear that the concrete repairs were more extensive than expected.

Off-peak lane closures between 9am and 4pm will continue for some of the time.

Councillor Tony Page, lead councillor for transport, said: “We understand this scheme does cause some inconvenience for people using the bridge and we appreciate their patience while it continues. It is vital these works are carried out properly now to ensure the bridge is fit to continue as a key part of Reading‘s road network.“
