D-Day on speed cut

A DECISION on whether to cut the speed limit in Shiplake to 20mph will be made

A DECISION on whether to cut the speed limit in Shiplake to 20mph will be made by the parish council in September.

It would cost £4,500 to implement the scheme and the new limit would be introduced in residential streets off the A4155 in Shiplake and Shiplake Cross, where the current limit is 30mph.

A consultation on the idea produced 38 objectors and only three in favour while four people had no strong view either way.

Opponents claim that the limit would be ignored by most drivers.

Thames Valley Police raised no objection to the scheme but said it would prefer a more targeted approach on some roads to include traffic-calming measures to ensure compliance.

• A Henley Standard article on July 17 stated that Oxfordshire County Council supported the lower limit. In fact, it has no official view and we are happy to make that clear.
