SONNING Common Parish Council has sent its best wishes for a speedy recovery to Martin Akehurst, the village‘s representative on South Oxfordshire District Council.
Councillor Akehurst is taking six months‘ leave from his duties because a dormant growth in his neck has started “playing up“.
The former Henley mayor, a Conservative, was elected to the district council and  re-elected to Henley Town Council in May.
His fellow district councillor Paul Harrison told a parish council meeting: “Maybe the pressure of campaigning for the town and district council and being mayor has tired him out.
“We‘re hoping he will be back. He may get up to a year without having to make a decision.“
In November 2013 Cllr Akehurst took leave from his duties on the town council for the same reason.
