Waterway clearance

PARISH councillors in Charvil have pledged up to £3,000 to help clear the village’s waterway.

PARISH councillors in Charvil have pledged up to £3,000 to help clear the village’s waterway.

Wokingham Borough Council wants to clear the waterway from the Old River in Charvil Meadows, off Old Bath Road, at an estimated cost of £8,000.

Simon Bartlam, countryside officer at the borough council, asked the parish council to help fund the project, which is supported by the Environment Agency, which is responsible for waterways.

The work, which would not lower the risk of flooding but would help wildlife in the waterway, is due to take place in the autumn.

It involves removing trees and sediment.

The parish council requested that Mr Bartlam asked the Environment Agency to make a contribution.
