Repainting road signs

STREET name signs painted on the side of houses in Henley could be refurbished.

STREET name signs painted on the side of houses in Henley could be refurbished.

Town and district councillor Stefan Gawrysiak made the suggestion at a meeting of the town council last week.

He said Henley was eligible for a share of £150,000 from South Oxfordshire District Council’s town and villages infrastructure fund.

Councillor Gawrysiak said the painted signs on the end of terraces in streets including Niagara Road, Boston Road and Gladstone Terrace were fading and that refurbishing them would help preserve the town’s heritage.

Councillor Ian Reissmann said the new street signs on the Gainsborough estate looked “really good” but those on the Abrahams estate now needed replacing.

Fellow district councillor Joan Bland suggested that the town council also applied for money to extend the Christmas lights into Friday Street and for a grant to create an outdoor gym.

“Funding is available for lots of things. I can help with this if anyone has ideas,” she said.
