Library in call box...

AN old telephone box in Henley could be turned into a mini-library.

AN old telephone box in Henley could be turned into a mini-library.

The red kiosk on the corner of St Andrew’s Road and Belle Vue Road was bought by the town council for £1 from BT in November 2013.

The council is considering moving the box to Greys Road at the junction with Manor Road near the shops and installing a defibrillator in it.

Now Millie Bond, of St Andrew’s Road, has suggested that it should be left where it is and used to store books instead.

She said: “It would be great if it is used as a free library. If it is left where it is I and the neighbours are happy to clean and maintain it. I have the support of Belle Vue Road and St Andrew’s Road.”

The issue will be discussed at a meeting of the town and community committee on September 1.
