New plan for homes

TWO homes could be built on a former commercial site in Sonning Common.

TWO homes could be built on a former commercial site in Sonning Common.

Bluejays Development, of Lambourne Road, has applied to build a two- bedroom house and a four-bedroom house on the land in Grove Road near the junction with Peppard Road.

A previous application for a five-bedroom house and a two-bedroom house was withdrawn in June.

The site currently contains two work sheds and a shipping container that used to be used by local tradesmem.

Paul Whitby, an environmental consultant, carried out an ecological study of the site for South Oxfordshire District Council, the planning authority.

His report said: “The plot includes broadleaf woodland habitat that is of value within a suburban context given its rarity. It is important that this habitat should be conserved where possible to ensure that it persists.

“The native bluebells at the site are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it illegal to intentionally pick or uproot a wild plant.”

The parish council will discuss the application at a meeting on September 7.
