GORING’S village hall committee has asked the parish council for a grant towards renovating the building.
Members want to redecorate the main hall and its two side rooms and replace the curtains at a cost of up to £7,000. They also want to replace the crockery, which would cost £2,000.
The committee asked councillors to “look sympathetically” on the request.
Since 2010, about £100,000 has been spent on creating a third room at the rear of the building, £20,000 on new toilets and £10,000 on new lighting and windows.
Sally Wicks, who chairs the committee, told councillors: “The hall is very heavily used and we keep our prices as low as possible to enable it to serve as a community facility.”
The council has asked the committee for more financial information so it can consider including a grant in its budget for next year.
The same response was given to the South and Vale Carers Centre, which had requested an unspecified contribution towards its services across the district.
