Family bid to extend home

A FAMILY want to extend their home in Benson.

Nicholas Walker has applied for planning permission to create an extra bedroom and en-suite bathroom at Farmers Man Cottage in Brook Street by adapting the loft and first floor extension. The property is a former pub.

The application submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council says: “The current owners have been in the house for nine years and have a growing family.

“The proposal is to add a bedroom and en-suite shower room to the single-storey section of the house above the dining room and partly over the existing flat roof.

“The extension would not be visible from the road and would have no windows on the side adjacent to the side access to the house, thus avoiding overlooking the neighbouring garden.

“Access to the bedroom would be from the existing landing with a short flight of stairs to the upper level of the proposed bedroom. Outwardly, it is considered the proposals will make little change to the appearance of the group of buildings formed by the conversion of the public house while having a marked improvement to the living accommodation for the occupants.”

The council will make a decision by November 26.
