Eden plan rejected

PLANS for an eco-house off Remenham Hill have been rejected.

PLANS for an eco-house off Remenham Hill have been rejected.

Darrel and Suri Poulos’s mini “Eden project”, called Arcadian Waters, was refused planning permission by Wokingham Borough Council on the grounds the development would breach its green belt policy.

The couple, who are currently renting a house in Blandy Road, Henley, plan to appeal to a planning inspector.

They had hoped their plans would be approved under a “Gummer”, a clause which permits “truly outstanding or innovative” development within the green belt.

Mr Poulos, a 63-year-old management consultant, said: “We’re really disappointed. One of the councillors spoke passionately about why he believed they should back the plans. The council took the conservative view and did not feel they were capable of deciding whether it was exceptional design.

“Hopefully the inspector will look and see the bigger picture.”
