Neighbourhood plan for Goring

GORING Parish Council agreed to prepare a neighbourhood plan in May following a campaign by residents.

GORING Parish Council agreed to prepare a neighbourhood plan in May following a campaign by residents.

It has approved a budget of £22,000 to organise public consultation, publicise the plan and write the document. It had previously declined to pursue one, arguing it would be too costly.

The plan will be written by volunteer working groups under the parish council’s supervision. The document should go to a referendum in about a year’s time and will become legally enforceable if more than half of voters approve it.

Nigel Gilson, chairman of the plan steering group, said: “The process is now very much under way, with more than 60 volunteers on board. I think we’ve done very well to bring it forward so quickly.”

Henley MP John Howell said: “One might also argue that the village could have started the process a lot sooner than it did.”
