MP calls for debate

JOHN HOWELL has called for a parliamentary debate on Network Rail’s actions.

JOHN HOWELL has called for a parliamentary debate on Network Rail’s actions.

The Henley MP raised the issue in the Commons with Chris Grayling, leader of the house.

He said: “Nobody wants to hold up electrification but sensitivity in such areas over the installations that are used to carry the electrification wires would be very much appreciated.”

Mr Grayling replied: “I am aware of the concerns that my Honourable Friend raises.

“Indeed, I walked through the Goring Gap recently and saw the work that is taking place.

“The electrification of the Great Western main line is great news for people in his constituency and is long overdue.

“However, my Honourable Friend is absolutely right that Network Rail needs to be careful and thoughtful in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to ensure this essential work doesn’t damage the landscape.”
