Pavers out of step

PAVING stones in a Henley street are set to be replaced.

PAVING stones in a Henley street are set to be replaced.

Oxfordshire County Council will remove the Victorian candy blocks in King’s Road, subject to approval from South Oxfordshire District Council.

These could then be used to repave West Street after it was refurbished with the wrong materials last year.

Henley Town Council’s planning committee has backed the plans and suggested that the paving stones should be replaced with similar brick pavers rather than pre-cast concrete blocks proposed by the county council.

The Henley Archaeological and Historical Group says the pre-cast concrete pavers are “absolutely unacceptable” and “neither preserve nor enhance the character of the conservation area”.

It says a only good quality, natural paving material should be used

The district council will make a decision next month.
