Guidelines for council handouts

HENLEY Town Council is set to agree a process for awarding grants and loans.

HENLEY Town Council is set to agree a process for awarding grants and loans.

The authority has made contributions to other organisations and causes for many years but its corporate plan says formal guidelines should be adopted.

A draft drawn up by Councillor Will Hamilton, chairman of the finance strategy and management committee, will be considered by the council at a meeting next month.

He recommends that grants should fall into one of three categories: major infrastructure, ongoing annual grants and community grants.

The first, defined as grants over £10,000, would go to organisations in Henley and Harpsden that support the goals of the parishes’ joint neighbourhood plan.

Up to five annual grants could be awarded at a time and proof of their continuing benefit to the area would be required.

Community grants would come from an annual budget of up to £15,000 and charitable organisations would be given priority.
