Road signs to be better

ROAD signs around Benson are to be improved.

ROAD signs around Benson are to be improved.

Dave Rushton, chairman of the village’s traffic advisory group, has asked Benson Parish Council to allocate up to £1,500 for work.

He said the group wanted to make it a lot clearer for drivers to see where Benson Primary School is and where the crossing points for children are.

It also wanted to remove the signs that are not relevant anymore and update the ones that are. Councillor Tom Stevenson asked why the parish council was responsible for road signs.

Mr Rushton, a former parish councillor, replied that Oxfordshire County Council, the highways authority, had no money to do the work so it would not get done otherwise.

The county council has agreed the work can take place, including installing flashing lights to enable children going to and from the school to cross without the help of a crossing patrol.

The parish council agreed to fund the work.
