Pavilion makeover

CONTRACTORS are being sought for the refurbishment of the Gardiner sports pavilion in Goring.

CONTRACTORS are being sought for the refurbishment of the Gardiner sports pavilion in Goring.

The parish council, which secured planning permission for the £50,000 scheme last year, has agreed to obtain at least three quotes so it can ask South Oxfordshire District Council for funding.

The building, off Upper Red Cross Road, is said to be “generally sub-standard” and a makeover has been planned for some time.

There is too little storage space for the village football, cricket and bowls clubs, while the changing rooms and showers are over-used and the disabled toilet is too small.

A new female toilet with disabled access will be installed and the boiler and electrical fittings will be replaced before the building is deep-cleaned and redecorated.

Outside, a new footpath will connect the access ramp on the main road to the front door. There will also be a new side entrance with steps.

A second phase of refurbishment will include an extension plus new showers and changing rooms.
