Exhibition by developers attracts village attention

ABOUT 300 people took the opportunity to view plans for up to 100 homes

ABOUT 300 people took the opportunity to view plans for up to 100 homes between Watlington and Pyrton.

Developer Providence Land held an exhibition at Watlington town hall on Friday and Saturday.

It has earmarked a field in Pyrton parish, near Watlington recreation ground, which is bounded on two sides by Pyrton Lane.

Jonathan Harbottle, director of Providence Land, said the exhibition was a “very positive” exercise and visitors were split equally split between those in favour of the plans and those against.

The scheme aims to take through-traffic out of Watlington town centre by rerouting it.

There would be a new road through the site, providing an alternative route for drivers using Pyrton Lane, and a short stretch of road to connect Cuxham Road and Pyrton Lane via Willow Close.

The proposals also include long-stay public parking, community and sports facilities and new parkland and open space to act as a buffer between Watlington and Pyrton.

Both villages are in the process of preparing neighbourhood plans.
