Woman’s land lease bid

A WOMAN is negotiating to lease a parcel of council land next to her home.

A WOMAN is negotiating to lease a parcel of council land next to her home.

Melanie Matthews, of Valley Road, Henley, says she would maintain the land as it is currently untidy and receives “little attention”.

She had offered to buy the plot but the council said it did not want to sell and would prefer to lease the land and suggested an annual rent of £500.

Mrs Matthews told a meeting of the council’s finance commitee this was more than she had expected and she would have to think about it.

Members agreed to ask town clerk Janet Wheeler to seek legal advice on a special lease before continuing negotiations with Mrs Mathews.
