PLANS to install flagpoles along the River Thames in Henley have been scrapped.
Councillors considered the idea as a way to promote events in the town to visitors and passing boaters.
But members of the finance committee rejected the proposal, which would have cost £4,000.
Councillor Ian Reissmann said: “I’m not convinced that flags are really right or necessary.
“I’m not sure it fits in with our riverside town image where we have what is a very attractive stretch of the river. I also don’t think it meets the value for money test.”
Mayor Lorraine Hillier said: “I don’t feel they are necessary and they would block the view — we want to see the river, not flagpoles.”
