New councillor

THE wife of an Olympic rowing medallist has been co-opted on to Watlington Parish Council.

THE wife of an Olympic rowing medallist has been co-opted on to Watlington Parish Council.

Nicky Smallbone, who has lived in the town for 15 years, replaces Liz Winton who resigned in March after almost two years in post.

Mrs Smallbone, who is a semi-retired businesswoman and a member of Watlington Volunteer Drivers, lives in Allnut Close with her husband Fred, a former Henley Royal Regatta umpire who won a silver medal in the eights at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Mrs Smallbone said she “loves” the town and wants to help the community.
