Opposition to homes

PLANS to build homes on a former Second World War camp in Sonning Common have been criticised

PLANS to build homes on a former Second World War camp in Sonning Common have been criticised by three parish councils.

Bennett Commercial, of Waltham St Lawrence, wants to build on the 0.69 hectares of land near Bishopswood Recreation Ground, off Gallowstree Road.

The company, which is run by brothers Roy and Steve Bennett, submitted a planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council for a three-bedroom and a two-bedroom house.

But Peppard and Kidmore End councils have now joined Sonning Common in opposing the plan.

Councillors in Kidmore End say the development encroaches on an undeveloped area while those in Peppard say it will create light pollution and that the development would alter the character of the area.

The district council will make a final decision next Wednesday.
