Dancer invites you to join fitness day

A WHOLE day of dancing and exercise is being organised to help raise money for Henley’s operatic society.

A WHOLE day of dancing and exercise is being organised to help raise money for Henley’s operatic society.

The dance-a-thon and fit-a-thon will include tap dance classes, power walks around the town, an ab work-out and a Latino-style dance session at the Studio in the Kenton Theatre on Sunday, March 3.

Emma Jane Taylor, principal of Stageworks dance school, will be overseeing the day’s procedings, and is calling people of all ages to sign up and join in.

The day starts at 10am with a warm-up and continues until 4pm when there will be a cool-down and stretch session. Although the six-hour exercise session sounds exhausting, Emma Jane insisted it will be enjoyable.

She said: “It’s going to be a really good fun day. I want people to feel like they have worked hard but had enormous fun in the process and raised money to support our local amateur operatic society. They need help at the moment.

“Even though we are getting through a lot of different exercises, each person can take it at a pace that suits them. As long as you are reasonably fit and active, you will be fine. I was doing a mature ladies’ dance class recently for 60 plus, and the oldest lady there was 86, so really there’s no limit on age.”

The dance-a-thon has been organised to help raise money to refurbish the Studio kitchen, which needs a new boiler among other repairs, and Emma Jane is hoping to raise at least £1,000.

The day’s schedule is as follows: 10am warm-up, 10.30am power walk, 11.15am tap dance class with Ann Burley, 12 noon, short break for lunch (bring your own), 12.15pm tap dancing, 1.45pm Just Dance with Sally-Anne Coleman, 1.45pm power walk, 2.30pm keep fit, 3pm Latino-style dance class, 3.30pm Ab work-out, 3.45pm cool down and stretch.

The cost is £10 for one class, £25 per morning session, £45 per afternoon session or £60 for the whole day. All monies raised will go to HAODS, which is a registered charity.
