FORMER GB rower Ric Egington is not at the Olympic Games in Brazil even though his girlfriend Vicky Thornley was competing in the women’s double sculls with Katherine Grainger.
The 37-year-old, who won a silver in Beijing in 2008 and bronze at London 2012, both in the men’s eight, is now retired from rowing and works for a medical device company.
He could have flown out to Rio but Vicky said he should stay at home in Henley.
“I am not going,” he told the local newspaper in his home town of Warrington.
“I said to her that I could come out and watch her or we could go to South Africa in December. We are going to South Africa.”
