TALKING of names, the debate over naming a new access road on the Townlands Hospital site

TALKING of names, the debate over naming a new access road on the Townlands Hospital site continues.

Town councillors favour Olympian Row after dismissing the developer’s suggestion of Laureate Gardens.

But Deputy Mayor Will Hamilton also wants to name buildings on the site after Olympic rowing heroes.

He suggested Pinsent Place, Redgrave Row, Grainger Gardens and Thornley Terrace for the old workhouse, range, old schoolhouse and new-build block respectively.

Other suggestions include Satch Surgery after Will Satch, who stroked the GB men’s eight to glory in Rio.

Cllr Hamilton had clearly run out of alliteration ideas by the time he came up with Jurgen Grobler Way after the coach.
