THE chairman of South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee isn’t very popular with Henley town councillors.
Councillor Felix Bloomfield, from Benson, has twice used his casting vote to approve applications that are not in accord with our neighbourhood plan.
The first concerned McCathy & Stone’s plan for 53 “extra care” flats in Reading Road and the second Henthames’ plan for an 80-bed care home in Newtown Road.
Last week, the town council’s recreation and amenities committee agreed to support a bid for an unofficial shortcut across the former LA Fitness site where the home is to be built to be designated a public footpath.
Deputy Mayor Will Hamilton said: “They could call it Felix Bloomfield Way.” Told that the development could take up to a decade to complete, he added: “Well, perhaps he’ll be in the care home by then.”
